The goal of building a patio is essentially to create an outdoor room for your house or business. A comfortable patio allows you and your guests to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine in a well defined and interesting area. I am happy to offer both naturally split flagstone or dimensional bluestone (squares and rectangles). Patios can feature both planting pockets and water features.
Building stone stairs from flagstone allows us to create a consistent and comfortable rise. Setting them dry and managing water issues can allow for a longer lifespan than most other stone stair techniques.
Flagstone walkways give you a classic garden path look but can be cut more closely to achieve a more formal look. I am also happy to consult on projects that require other path building materials such as brick or pavers.
I offer both retaining walls and free-standing walls. Materials may vary depending on what’s available on site and close by but the process and technique is consistent. The advantage of dry stone walling is mainly that you don’t need a giant footing installed to prevent frost heave. There are still plenty of considerations regarding water and foundation but they generally don’t involve going many feet into the ground beforehand and still provide great strength and durability.
With so many homeowners looking for ways to reduce the cost and impact of lawn care Rock Gardening can be a practical and beautiful way to cut down on lawn space. Rocks, gravel, dry streambeds and stone sculpture, with carefully placed hardy plants can create peaceful spaces while being much lower maintenance than a lawn or even a traditional garden. These can also be used as features within or around your existing garden.
Installing a waterfall, pond, pondless waterfall or fountain on your property can provide so many benefits. One of the calling cards of a water feature is the calming white noise it can provide. You’re also providing a small ecosystem that can be attractive to frogs and birds (and fish if you choose to add them). Because the water is flowing and filtered you don’t get the insect problems that are associated with standing water. It can also be a fun space for your kids or furry friend to play.
